Multiplex becomes the first UAE-based company to receive carbon targets approval

Multiplex committed their European operations to the Science Based Targets initiative in July 2018 and had their target approved in December 2018. They went on to become the first construction company in the world to align their science-based target with limiting temperature increase to just 1.5C.

In August 2019, Multiplex made the same public commitment to reduce carbon emissions across their Middle East operations, and, following a rigorous external review, these targets have now been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative.

Using 2018 as its base year, Multiplex is aiming to reduce direct emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) by 63.1% by 2033. They have also committed to reduce indirect emissions (Scope 3) by 30% per square metre, also by 2033. Multiplex is implementing a number of sustainable strategies to achieve these targets, including the use of renewable energy sources on their Middle East project sites and through the design and build of energy-efficient temporary site buildings.

Multiplex continues to work closely with their clients, industry partners, consultants, regulators and supply chain to optimise the use of low-carbon construction materials and processes, ensuring they deliver buildings that operate at low energy, carbon and cost.
