Multiplex was awarded the Contractor of the Year for the second year running in the recently concluded Construction Week Qatar Awards in Doha.

Multiplex was praised for “combining quality with speed and its attitude towards personal and development initiatives. Apart from being consistent in delivering high quality, high profile projects, Multiplex was also noted for its excellent HSE record on its projects with millions of LTI-free man-hours.

Pedro Duarte also took home the highly coveted Project Manager of the Year for his “vast experience in the construction sector in the GCC and MEA” and also for “being instrumental in improving operational efficiency across various teams within his company”. Pedro is the Project Manager for the Qatar National Library, an innovative education and social space located in Doha’s Education City.

Multiplex also bagged the Sustainability Project of the Year award for Qatar Academy Msheireb. While all the entries were praised for innovation and setting benchmarks, Multiplex, however, impressed the judges with comments including: “The project meets the highest sustainability standard. It is a good model of healthy and sustainable design” while another judge commented “Understated sustainability achieved on time, in a complex inner city location.”

Multiplex shared the Health and Safety Initiative Award with Mace International, a first in this category. Multiplex’s Hand Safety Campaign launched in Qatar Academy Msheireb, earned praises for tackling a serious (but seldom acknowledged) issue on construction sites. The campaign included an exhibition area, video presentations and live performances focusing on potential hand injuries and ways to avoid them.

“Many thanks to everyone for their commitment and hard work which made these awards possible. It is indeed a great reward for all the hard work this year so far and a phenomenal achievement for us to win Contractor of the Year in Qatar again” said Renier Breitenbach, General Manager for Multiplex Medgulf.

Now on its sixth year, the Construction Week Qatar Awards recognizes and rewards the regional players that have gone above and beyond in terms of their industry contribution. The awards night was held in The Westin Doha Hotel and Spa on 28 September 2016.
