Consortium selected to deliver Karratha accommodation facility for Woodside
A consortium comprising DIF, Multiplex, Compass Group and Brookfield Financial has been nominated as the preferred tenderer to construct and manage a new 700-bed Karratha workers accommodation facility for Woodside.
The facility will be constructed on the site of the existing Bay Village in Karratha, providing urban style and socially integrated high-quality accommodation with a 30-year design life.
The consortium consists of:
- DIF – a leading independent fund management company and a long-term investor in infrastructure assets in Australia and globally
- Multiplex – a leading global contractor with experience delivering high-quality accommodation facilities, including the Roy Hill Accommodation Village in the Pilbara. Multiplex is also in the final stages of constructing the Karratha Health Campus
- Compass Group – the country’s leading provider of food and facilities management services to the resources industry and currently supports Woodside operations on the North West Shelf
- Brookfield Financial – an experienced financial and commercial advisor
Multiplex will construct the facility, with Compass Group appointed to manage it for 15 years. DIF is the project investor and manager and Brookfield Financial is the financial advisor.
Multiplex WA Regional Managing Director Chris Palandri said the Company was excited to continue its presence in the region as part of the experienced consortium. “We look forward to working with Woodside to deliver a first-rate accommodation facility,” he said.
“Local content and employment is a key focus for the project, with the vast majority of procurement expected to take place in Western Australia. We have achieved more than 85 per cent local Pilbara employment on the Karratha Health Campus project and expect to exceed that figure for the construction of Woodside’s facility.”
Compass Group Managing Director Shelley Roberts said, “We value our longstanding relationship with Woodside and are excited about bringing the latest innovations in service excellence and workforce welfare to the Woodside team in Karratha.”
DIF Managing Director Marko Kremer said, “We are proud to have been selected to work with Woodside in the delivery and long-term operation of this important new facility for Karratha.”
Once operational, servicing of the accommodation facility is expected to create approximately 40 jobs.
The consortium will progress primary approvals for lands and its development concept, and when these are satisfied, a formal contract will be awarded. The contract value for the initial 15-year term is approximately A$400 million, with additional 15-year extension options.
Construction is anticipated to begin in February 2018, once the State of Western Australia has executed a lease with the consortium and development approvals are achieved. It is anticipated that the facility will be fully operational in February 2019.
