Multiplex joins other UK business leaders calling for net zero carbon by 2050

The letter, which has been signed by over 120 climate change experts and business leaders, follows a recommendation from the Committee on Climate Change for the government to set this zero-carbon target in UK law.

Multiplex has already made a public commitment to go beyond net-zero and create a positive impact on the environment through our work with the Science Based Targets initiative – a joint initiative between the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and CDP that aims to combat dangerous climate change.

We signed up to the initiative in 2018, submitting our carbon reduction target to a rigorous external review by these world-leading climate change authorities. It was approved by the Science Based Targets initiative in February of this year, making Multiplex one of the first contractors in the UK to officially set targets against recognised global thresholds. We are targeting a 30% reduction in direct carbon emissions by 2030, and to accelerate this we are also targeting 100% renewable electricity use for every Multiplex site in Europe by 2020.
