A luxury hotel with complex design features delivered in a challenging, constrained residential location

The successful construction project was a joint venture between Multiplex and local contractor Ascon.

The Taj Palace represents the five-star luxury of the United Arab Emirates at its best, and is a popular choice amongst visitors to Dubai. Positioned in an ideal location, in the heart of Deira , the hotel is a mere 10 minute drive from the Dubai International Airport and walking distance from one of the city’s main shopping malls. It also enjoys a close proximity to the Dubai World Trade Center, major financial institutions and local government offices.

The hotel boasts 147 executive rooms, 10 executive suites and two royal suites. It also has 90 fully furnished and serviced apartments, and five specialty themed restaurants offering Japanese, Italian, Indian, Turkish, Arabic and Continental cuisines.

One of the striking architectural features, adding complexity to the construction of the project, was the conical glazed curtain walling beneath a reinforced concrete vierendeel structure, which forms the central atrium of the hotel lobby.

Despite its challenging location in the heart of the Deira residential area, and being surrounded on all sides by apartment buildings, the project was completed within an ambitious 20-month timeframe with minimal impact to residents.
