Multiplex completes stage one of iconic new Southbank precinct

VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA: Premier global construction company Multiplex has completed Stage One of OSK Property’s iconic $2.8 billion mixed-use development, Melbourne Square.

Located in the heart of Southbank and bound by Power, Kavanagh and Balston Streets, Melbourne Square is set to be one of the largest mixed-use precincts in Melbourne. It will feature six towers ranging from 38 to 73 levels in height. Four residential towers will deliver over 2,610 apartments, alongside a 621-room hotel and a 52,000 square metre commercial office tower.

The $490 million Stage One comprises a striking pair of 54 and 69 level residential towers providing a combined total of 1,043 residential apartments.

With architecture by COX, innovative design features of Stage One’s residential towers include bold pleated façades providing a bay window feel whilst simultaneously maximising view lines views and natural light.

The residential towers share a terraced eight-level podium providing over 3,700 square metres of public realm including landscaped parklands and a retail precinct at the base of the towers.

According to Multiplex, 2,926 workers have worked on site since construction commenced in November 2017 and approximately 51,000 cubic metres of concrete was used to deliver Stage One.

Notable construction and design features include the use of approximately 13,642 glass panels in the bold pleated exterior design.

Extensive gymnasiums have also been built on levels 8 and 54 with premium equipment and machinery provided, as well as an expansive 48m lap pool.

First-class amenities at Melbourne Square will include a retail centre, dining precinct, childcare centre and extensive public parklands with cascading water features and piazzas.
