SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: Australian property developer Greaton has today announced the appointment of Multiplex as the builder to complete The Ribbon in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

Construction of The Ribbon, which includes the 585-room luxury W Sydney hotel, IMAX theatre and retail, is largely complete. The remaining works mostly relate to the internal fit-out, along with some public domain contribution works to the Darling Harbour precinct being delivered as part of the project.

The appointment of Multiplex came after previous builder, Probuild, went into administration.

Michael Calvi, Project Director for Greaton, says the appointment of the world-class and respected construction company is great outcome for one of Sydney’s most iconic buildings.

“The Ribbon is one of the most complex new major developments currently underway in Sydney and occupies public land right on the harbour foreshore. Appointing a new builder has involved extensive consultation with various stakeholders,” says Mr Calvi.

“Multiplex was the clear frontrunner in being able to put the finishing touches on such an important landmark for Darling Harbour and for Sydney.

Mr Calvi adds: “We are also pleased to continue working with our strong top-tier subcontractor partners, including Buildcorp for the interior fit-out works, who remain committed to completing The Ribbon throughout the transition period.”

Multiplex are expected to start work on-site soon.

David Ghannoum, Regional Managing Director Multiplex, said, “Multiplex built the original IMAX theatre some 25 years ago, and so it’s with great pride that we are supporting Greaton to bring this re-imagined project to fruition. We look forward to getting started and delivering for Sydney-siders.”
