Multiplex delivers $1b mini city in Clayton, VIC
Premier global contractor Multiplex has completed the $1 billion mixed-use M-City development on behalf of Schiavello Group, breathing new life into Clayton's former warehousing district.
Prominently located at 2109-2125 Dandenong Road on the corner of Princess Highway and Blackburn Road, M-City is one of the largest master-planned community single stage developments undertaken in Victoria to date.
Designed by high-profile architects The Buchan Group, M-City is an iconic new gateway to Melbourne's South East growth corridor.
"We are delighted to complete one of the most significant new developments in Victoria. M-City is a vibrant miniature city in itself delivering premium office, residential, retail and hotel accommodation. It will quickly become a new lifestyle destination in Clayton," said Graham Cottam, Regional Managing Director of Multiplex Victoria.
Multiplex commenced work on M-City in July, 2018 and construction spanned a two-year period with up to 1,100 workers on-site during peak periods.
In an engineering and construction feat, the 30,000 square metre site has a combined built area over 18 hectares.
According to Multiplex, an industry first was also achieved during the construction of M-City with the utilisation of hollow-core and pre-cast structure to an extent that cannot be compared with any building project of this scale in Australia.
M-City's residential precinct has seen the construction of four residential buildings ranging from 03 to 12 levels and comprising a total of some 665 apartments in a range of configurations.
The apartment towers feature a range of exclusive facilities for residents including landscaped rooftop gardens with tennis courts and open-air games areas, a swimming pool and spa, a state-of-the-art fitness centre and BBQs with outdoor seating.
M-City also features a 4.5-star international hotel that will be operated by Park Royal. With a signature bronze facade, the 10-level hotel is prominently located on the corner of Dandenong and Blackburn Roads and comprises 250 rooms, a restaurant and bar and conference facilities.
In its commercial and retail precinct, M-City has an eight-level commercial office tower providing some 14,000 square metres of A Grade commercial space above a two-level retail podium.
The 30,450 square metre retail centre comprises 78 stores including Woolworths, K-Mart, Village cinema complex, a medical centre and a childcare centre with a two-level carpark providing 2,000 carspaces.
M-City's retail centre is set to become an entertainment and lifestyle hub in Clayton and will also offer a range of cafes and destination dining options.
