Multiplex E+I in conjunction with joint venture partners NRW and Laing O’Rourke undertook engineering and construction works on the MidWest Rail Upgrade project for client Brookfield Rail.
Brookfield Rail, a member of the global Brookfield Asset Management organisation, operates over 5,100km of critical rail infrastructure throughout the southern half of Western Australia, under a long term lease with the State Government.
As manager of the extensive network, Brookfield Rail has undertaken one of the largest investment programs to occur in the last 40 years, which will underpin the significant increase in tonnes transported on the network in the MidWest region. Totalling over AUD$500 Million, these upgrades involve:
- · Construction of a new dual gauge line between Morawa and Mullewa
- · Upgrading the existing line between Mullewa and Geraldton Port.
Multiplex E+I’s role included engineering and construction works for a section of the overall upgrade, which was vital to regenerate the existing rail infrastructure. The construction and engineering works enables the rail network to meet increasing demands from the resources sector now and into the future.
