Revitalising the office environment.
The Minerva House development, situated on the Southbank of the River Thames, features over 140,000 sq ft of prime office space, offering views to the iconic Southwark Cathedral and beyond.
The future focused redesign of Minerva House has flexibility built in, offering Class E office floorspace across eight levels with an adaptable ground floor. The project includes thoughtful amenities throughout and features roof terraces from Levels Six to Nine, while the lower ground floor provides affordable workspaces for residents and businesses alike. Enhancing the surrounding public realm is a major aspect of the redesign and features a newly established pedestrian route between Golden Hinde and Minerva House. Meticulous attention has been paid to massing, ensuring a harmonious Thames fronting elevation which respects the visual proximity to Southwark Cathedral.
The location of Minerva House makes for a complex site. Constraints include twelve residential units within the Minerva House footprint, River Thames abutting the North elevation, single route traffic through Borough Market, the adjacent Grade II Southwark Cathedral, the Golden Hinde, as well as numerous pubs and restaurants within a busy tourist location. Considering the most practical construction methods which caused minimal disruption was therefore pivotal. In partnership with GPS Marine, we have replaced traditional Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) with a dedicated Barge transportation service to ensure the most efficient and carbon-friendly delivery and removal of materials. This innovative strategy also significantly reduces traffic congestion associated with the site, thereby lowering the overall project carbon emissions. By reducing the reliance on HGVs, the initiative directly addresses air quality concerns related to CO2 emissions.
Minerva House represents the future of adaptive reuse, reimagining existing buildings for the future urban environment.
