Old Swan Brewery, Perth
The $54 million conversion of the heritage-listed Old Swan Brewery on Mounts Bay Road in Perth’s CBD was completed by Multiplex in 2001 on behalf of Bluegate Nominees Pty Ltd.
Home to the Swan Brewery from 1857 to the late 1970s, the site was saved from potential demolition when it was acquired for redevelopment in the 1980s.
Designed by architects Cox Howlett & Bailey Woodland, the landmark property was transformed into a bustling mixed-use precinct featuring 30,000 square metres of commercial office space and restaurants topped by 28 luxury apartments.
With a timeline spanning almost 10 years, the intricate project saw Multiplex restore the heritage building to its original grandeur and prominence within the Perth CBD.
As a significant project in Perth the Old Swan Brewery was subject to planning issues and controversy with Multiplex effectively managing stakeholders and their interests to keep the project on track.
