Perth Stadium Indigenous Engagement Program
To increase the employment of local Indigenous people on the landmark Perth Stadium project, Multiplex partnered with the Wirrpanda Foundation and group training organisation Skill Hire to facilitate sustainable employment opportunities on the project.
Wirrpanda Foundation’s VTEC model provides work readiness training for job candidates and ongoing mentoring and support, working in tandem with Skill Hire to facilitate traineeships and apprenticeships.
Every Multiplex subcontractor was introduced to Wirrpanda and Skill Hire as they commenced on the project and encouraged to participate in the program. Cultural awareness training was provided to all Multiplex employees on the project to assist in the process.
Over 20 Indigenous workers have been engaged on the project through the program, the majority as trainees or apprentices – providing the opportunity to gain invaluable experience on a large commercial construction site while attaining trade qualifications.
A number of other Indigenous engagement initiatives have also been implemented on the project, including a significant investment into a public art project which has seen eight Indigenous artists funded to create public artworks for the Stadium precinct.
