Connecting the foreshore to the Queens Wharf development

Due to the large volume of traffic coupled with the high level of workmanship expected on the balance of the QWB precinct, this thoroughfare required an excellent standard of quality and finish that enhances public amenity, utility and enjoyment.

The Works were delivered in two separable portions: 

• SP 1 - Bicentennial Bikeway
• SP 2 - Waterline Park, Mangrove Walk, Boat House

The existing riverside bikeway from Alice Street to the Goodwill Bridge was upgraded and widened to provide an improved dedicated cycle provision. This also includes provision of a footpath along most of its length, planting to the side of the Riverside Expressway (REX), and other hard and soft landscaping. New lighting, CCTV and 'help' call points have been added along the length of the bikeway. 

Waterline Park is a new public park to the south of 1 William Street underneath the REX. The park includes water sensitive urban design features, art installation, exercise and sports equipment, CCTV, hard landscaping and street furniture.

The Mangrove Walk comprises a new river walkway along and within the existing and augmented mangroves along the shoreline from 1 William Street to the Goodwill Bridge. This includes connection to the existing QUT ferry terminal. It includes creation of a new pedestrian walkway, viewing platforms with shade structures, lighting and CCTV, and art installations.

Works for the Boat House includes the creation of a covered, enclosed timber, glass and steel building structure, with kitchen and dining areas and public toilets on the large pier platform at the QUT end of the Mangrove Walk.
