Sydney Water Corporate Headquarters, Parramatta

Sydney Water Corporate Headquarters, Parramatta

In 2007, Multiplex was commissioned to develop, design, construct and manage the new Sydney Water Headquarters at Parramatta, a building that demonstrates how architectural design can provide the latest technology, while ensuring significant savings in water and energy consumption.

The new corporate headquarters comprises 23,000 m2 of ‘A’ Grade office accommodation across 15 storeys and 340 m2 of retail space, along with 254 on-site car parking spaces and a further 100 off-site car parking spaces.

Designed to achieve a high standard in workplace efficiency and environmental sustainability, the building incorporates a range of innovative features that achieve a 5 Star Green Star Design and As Built ratings. This includes an on-site water recycling plant, rainwater harvesting, solar heating panels to supplement hot water requirements, a high performance glass facade, chilled beam cooling and optimal floor plate sizes of 1,600 m2.

Multiplex set about achieving performance objectives to put the building in line with best practice for sustainable design. The building incorporates significant sustainable design features including water and energy efficiency and recycling. It is designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent and reduce drinking water use by 75 percent when compared to a typical office building. The reduction in water used at the site also significantly reduces the flow of wastewater to the sewerage system.

Multiplex addressed key concerns that extended beyond the built form, addressing the functional requirements of the 1,400 workers accommodated within the development. The building provides improved air quality and office environment and a rooftop garden that can be enjoyed by the people that work there.

The new Sydney Water Corporate Headquarters is among the leading office designs of its type in Australia, embracing both functional and sustainable design solutions and providing value for money.
