Ashley Muldoon, EMEC CEO, and John Flecker, Australian CEO, welcomed Cristina Gamboa of the World Green Building Council (World GBC) to our London head office to sign the Net Zero Commitment.

Through this, we have become the first contractor in the world to take an official step towards becoming a net zero company.

This commitment takes urgent action against climate change by ensuring that we only own and occupy assets which operate at net zero carbon by 2030. It is an essential step in moving towards a decarbonised construction industry by taking a best practice approach to energy use onsite. The commitment is part of World GBC's Advancing Net Zero global project, which aims to promote and support the acceleration of net zero carbon buildings to 100% by 2050.

By signing the commitment, Multiplex joins 60 other businesses across the globe from a range of different industries, including manufacturers, real estate developers and design firms. To achieve the commitment's goals, we will use a combination of energy reduction measures, onsite and offsite renewables and carbon offsetting. We are already progressing towards net zero carbon for our owned and occupied assets in Europe through offsite renewable electricity.

We are excited to be a part of this significant movement and look forward to working with the other co-signatories to reduce our impact on the environment.
