Constructing a world class theatre for Canberra

Early works have been completed and main construction has commenced, including major service diversions and piling works across the site. The new 2,000 seat purpose-built theatre will feature a state-of-the-art stage, advanced technical capability and exceptional acoustics comparable to leading venues in Sydney and Melbourne, enabling Canberra to host major national and international musicals, ballet, opera and large-scale contemporary productions that currently bypass the city.

The four-level venue will progress from foundation works into structural construction, followed by installation of the roof and distinctive façade. Interior works scheduled for 2027 will deliver high quality seating, stage infrastructure and technical systems. As part of the wider transformation of Canberra’s City Centre, the project will boost cultural, tourism and economic activity, with completion planned for 2028.
