A diverse and high quality multidisciplinary micro- and nano-technology research facility.
Located over two levels of an existing building, the Micro Nano Research Facility spans an area of approximately 1,200 square metres plus rooftop plant areas and took seven months to construct.
The Micro Nano Research Facility represents the on-going relationship between Multiplex and RMIT University, with the contractor delivering the iconic $200 million Swanston Academic Building in 2012.
The state-of-the-art facility brings together diverse and high quality multi-disciplinary micro-technology and nano-technology research.
Access to natural light and visual connectivity between research spaces provides a more collaborative working environment for researchers, students and staff. The design enables researchers to communicate via technology between non-clean and clean environments and allows visitors to either observe or engage in activities at the facility.
The requirements for laboratories and education facilities require specialised knowledge and Multiplex was able to draw on its considerable expertise to deliver this high-tech facility. Other features include safety cabinets to house specialist gases and an abatement system to filter gases. Future flexibility has been built into the design via a "plug and play" set up of equipment that will enable rapid response to changes in research technologies.
