Refurbishing existing student accomodation to provide modern living in a historic building

The existing buildings, with the exclusion of the 14-storey Hughes Parry Tower, were demolished and replaced with a new building. The new structure was formed from an in situ concrete frame with brick-faced concrete cladding panels on all external elevations, while two new internal courtyards feature a render finish. The private gardens were also redeveloped, and four new tennis courts were installed.

The Hughes Parry Tower was refurbished, which included replacing all internal and external finishes, as well as the upper two floors. It now provides 246 en-suite self-catered rooms. A further 954 rooms are located in the new buildings, made up of 709 en-suite catered bedrooms, 73 en-suite self-catered bedrooms, and 172 bedrooms in the townhouses.

In total, the development now covers a gross internal floor area of 32,557m2, with a new servicing and delivery access at lower ground level accommodating 600 bicycles.
