Creating a major business district opposite City Airport by redeveloping East London's docklands

There will be six separate phases of the development, with Multiplex contracted to deliver Phase 1. Phase 1 entails the construction of plots 5A, 5B, 8A, 8B and 9A, including all associated public realm areas, roads and infrastructure. Phase 1 works will also include the construction of a temporary energy centre and temporary works on Bidder Square.

The location of the site necessitated intensive liaisons with multiple parties including City Airport, the Royal Docks Management Authority and the Regatta Club to ensure the discharge of our pre-start planning conditions. The team are working near a ‘live’ dock which is 220 metres away from the City of London Airport, with a Docklands Light Railway track running to the north of the site. Because the area was bombed repeatedly during the Second World War, we have had to prepare for the possibility of discovering unexploded ordnance.

This area is predicted to become London’s third business district, after the City of London and Canary Wharf. It will function as a gateway into the UK and European markets for Chinese and Asian businesses.
