To address one of the industry’s greatest risks to safety, we’ve piloted an innovative falling objects catch fan on the tower cranes at Cbus Property’s 435 Bourke Street in Melbourne’s CBD.

435 Bourke Street Project Manager Michael Sulzberger said the catch fans are a first for Multiplex sites, and are targeted at reducing the likelihood and risk associated with falling objects.

“The catch fans were retrofitted to the existing external climbing frame walkways on the cranes in an effort to further manage falling objects risk during crane climb activities which are frequent high-risk works performed on our site,” Michael said.

The catch fans were engineered and fabricated by crane manufacturer Favelle Favco and went through off-site testing prior to fabrication.

The tower cranes at 435 Bourke are already the most sustainable in Victoria, with the first use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO100) renewable diesel to power the cranes.

The innovation is part of our ongoing commitment to safety, which includes a strategic focus on identifying and addressing critical risks.
