London, United Kingdom. Endurance Land, a Member of Nan Fung Group, has appointed Multiplex as Construction Partner, under a PCSA, for 99 City Road, EC1.

In working closely with the existing design team, Multiplex’s role will be to drive innovation through the design and development process as well as maximise efficiency of delivery. Endurance Land will work with Multiplex as a key partner in the scheme’s community engagement and sustainability commitments. In collaboration, Multiplex will engage our neighbours and wider stakeholders as well as jointly develop plans that meet Endurance Land’s sustainability ambition, around existing structure retention, circular economy, carbon targets, and meaningful social value interventions.

Since a resolution to grant planning consent was secured in September 2023, Endurance Land has undertaken a thorough tender process with the Tier 1 Main Contractor market. Following a highly competitive early engagement process, Multiplex has been awarded the role based on its extensive experience in complex tower schemes, best in class delivery teams, and clear capability to bring ingenuity to the design process.

“We are very confident in our appointment of Multiplex as Construction Partner. Having Multiplex onboard at this early stage and leveraging its unique skill set in delivery of complex tall buildings, is critical to ensure the successful delivery of 99 City Road.  We’re excited to welcome Multiplex to the project team and begin our ambitious plans to deliver this landmark scheme at Old Street roundabout in Islington.”  Richard Rixson, Director at Endurance Land

“We are delighted to be part of the high calibre team that Endurance Land has brought together to design and deliver 99 City Road.  Endurance Land’s selection process was innovative and really challenged us to explore the potential efficiencies of the project from an engineering and delivery perspective; this really tested what we could bring to the project, and we are now looking forward to working with the team to deliver the ambitious targets that we have been set.” Callum Tuckett, Managing Director at Multiplex

Owned by Nan Fung Group, managed by Endurance Land, and designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), 99 City Road will provide 64,873m2 of adaptable, best in class, Net Zero workspace within a distinctive 35-storey building.

The main objectives of the scheme’s design include transforming the existing building, upgrading how the building interacts with its neighbours, and greatly enhancing the building’s sustainability credentials, including BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Core Platinum, and embodied carbon <650kg/CO2/m2.

The updated building at 99 City Road will greatly transform the relationship the building has with its surroundings and provide tremendous public benefits to the area. The plans significantly improve the public realm through the provision of a generous new public square and widening of pedestrian pinch points.
