Multiplex Canada launches its annual 2023 ESG Highlights
TORONTO, CANADA: Multiplex Construction Canada Ltd. (Multiplex) – a premier construction company in the GTA, launches its 2023 ESG Highlights.
Today, Multiplex Canada proudly unveiled its annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Highlights for 2023, reaffirming its steadfast commitment to decarbonization, environmental protection, and positive social impact. This report underscores how these core principles are embedded across all business functions, driving our mission to create meaningful change in the construction industry.
Our approach to ESG is comprehensive, ensuring that every member of our workforce is empowered to contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future. We also collaborate closely with our supply chain to meet our ambitious goals, reflecting our belief that collective action is essential for achieving lasting impact.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
Decarbonization Roadmap: This year marks the release of our Decarbonization Roadmap, a detailed plan outlining the necessary short-term steps on our path to achieve a net-zero carbon supply chain by 2050. This roadmap is crucial for guiding our actions in the coming decade as we work toward a more sustainable future.
Exceeding GHG Reduction Targets: We are thrilled to announce that we have surpassed our science-based target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Originally aiming for a 63% reduction by 2035, we achieved an outstanding 89% reduction in 2023 compared to our 2020 baseline. Our next challenge will be maintaining this significant achievement.
Path to Reconciliation Strategy: We have developed a Path to Reconciliation strategy that aligns with Call to Action 92 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This strategy defines our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and our role in supporting Indigenous communities.
Empowering Women in Construction: The Multiplex Canada Women’s Network continues to grow, fostering a supportive environment where members can share their aspirations, develop new skills, and navigate challenges in the industry. This network is a vital part of our efforts to promote diversity and inclusion within our workforce.
Critical Risk Workshops: Our expanded Critical Risk Workshops are designed to identify, analyze and mitigate the risks involved in the most hazardous construction activities. By bringing together contractors, managers, engineers, Health and Safety professionals, and most importantly the frontline workers, these workshops aim to collaboratively assess potential hazards.
At Multiplex Canada, our ESG strategy is more than just a set of commitments—it’s a blueprint for action.
“As we present this report, we reflect on a year of significant strides in our ESG commitments at Multiplex Canada. This report is designed to highlight our tangible actions, backed by robust data and grounded in scientific research. We have taken bold steps to reduce our environmental impact, foster inclusive and thriving communities, and uphold the highest standards of transparency and integrity.” said Mark Nolan, Director Safety, Health, Sustainability & Quality.
