Multiplex Completes Stage Two of NEXTDC's P1 Perth Data Centre, Doubling Capacity
PRESS RELEASE:
PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA: Multiplex has reached Practical Completion on Stage Two of NEXTDC's P1 Perth data centre in Malaga, doubling the facility's IT capacity while delivering the project on time and on budget.
Working alongside NEXTDC under an Early Contractor Agreement, Multiplex refined the design early to improve constructability and increase the use of modular construction and offsite prefabrication. This approach improved safety, efficiency and certainty throughout delivery.
The project involved the construction and fit out of a new 1,069 square metre data hall. Built directly alongside the operational Stage One facility, the works required careful planning and staging to ensure live operations continued uninterrupted throughout construction.
Sustainability outcomes were also embedded throughout the project. An electric crane was used onsite to reduce emissions, while green concrete lowered embodied carbon by 65% compared to conventional mixes.
Prefabricated risers, header pipework and reinforcement cages helped reduce waste and increase efficiency, while locally sourced aluminium and precast panels replaced imported materials where possible.
The completion marks Multiplex's fifth data centre delivered for NEXTDC over the past seven years, representing more than 500MW of IT capacity nationally and highlighting a strong track record in delivering highly specialised digital infrastructure.
