Restoring heritage structures to create vibrant, inclusive and innovative spaces

Multiplex delivered the commercial, heritage renovation of 158 Sterling Road for the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).

The 10 storey fit-out features customized mechanical and electrical systems that create the optimal environment for housing MOCA artworks, a custom elevator system, and five floors of commercial office space.

The heritage building dates back to 1919 when it was tallest building in Canada, and one of the first buildings to have an elevator. Unique and innovative solutions were required to overcome the challenges of this heritage fit-out, including building a bespoke vertical transportation cab to fit the building’s original, smaller elevator shaft.
