Estidama Pearl Rating 2
The first Estidama Pearl-rated construction project
Multiplex was responsible for the specialised construction of the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre in Al Ain, which constitutes treatment and assessment rooms, doctors’ offices, a pharmacy and laboratory.
This project was the second phase of the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) in the UAE, following the successful completion of the first phase in central Abu Dhabi. It has been built within the grounds of Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, which is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine.
The centre houses 22 doctors’ offices, 26 assessment rooms, 44 examination and treatment rooms, a pharmacy, laboratory, auditorium and cafeteria. With long-term considerations around community growth, Multiplex has made allowances for the future expansion of the facility.
The facade has been designed with the key focus on patient comfort levels, allowing additional light into the rooms and incorporating landscape views. This is achieved through a unique design that creates harmony between the glass and perforated cladding.
Features such as solar shades, energy efficient MEP (Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing) Building Services, greywater treatment, waste management, water-wise landscaping, solar heating and locally procured and manufactured materials, demonstrate Multiplex’s commitment to sustainability in the region. It is the first Estidama Pearl-rated construction project in the UAE, having achieved a 2 Pearl Estidama Rating (Abu Dhabi’s environmental rating system).
