58-level high-rise apartment tower.
Central Equity’s $450 million apartment tower Melbourne Grand is located at 560 Lonsdale Street in Melbourne’s CBD.
Designed by high-profile architects Guilford Bell + Graham Fisher Architects, the high-rise residential tower spans 58 levels with a range of generous sized one, two and three bedroom configurations. It includes the refurbishment of 556 Lonsdale Street which is one of Melbourne’s oldest surviving buildings. The heritage dwelling was constructed between 1855 and 1878 and the restoration ensures the long term preservation of this important State heritage listed building. The refurbishment and integration of the building within Melbourne Grand adds interest and character to the development.
Innovative construction methods include façade installation behind the formwork screens, as well as precast elements used for cantilevered sections.
Construction challenges include working within the tight confines of one of Melbourne’s busy foot-traffic laneways and legal precinct. At the top of the building, the constantly changing curved shape of the floor plate necessitated multiple change overs.
