State-of-the-art clinical and emergency services
Construction of the seven-storey, 339-bed hospital marked the sixth health project Multiplex has successfully delivered for the NSW Government and Health Infrastructure in recent years.
The new Maitland Hospital replaces the existing hospital, providing a range of enhanced adult and paediatric services for the region. New facilities include emergency, maternity, palliative care and rehabilitation, chemotherapy and ambulatory care spaces.
In addition, the revitalised hospital boasts contemporary clinical support services including operating suites, a central sterile services department, pharmacy and pathology, as well as isolation rooms, plaster rooms and gyms to support both general and mental health services for patients.
Multiplex delivered a major regional health facility designed to accommodate complex clinical environments and evolving healthcare requirements. The project required careful coordination of highly serviced spaces, with a strong focus on buildability, safety and long-term adaptability. A prefabricated services strategy, including modular riser elements, was adopted to improve buildability, safety and coordination on site. By embedding constructability into the design process and planning for future flexibility, the project supports efficient delivery while enabling the hospital to respond to changing operational needs over time.
