Making the workspace a desirable inner-city location
Boasting 39,200m2 of premium workspace and 15,000m2 of prime retail over 13 storeys, One Exchange Square redefines the role of the office.
Designed by Fletcher Priest Architects and delivered by Multiplex, One Exchange Square retains 90% of its original 1980s structure, reducing embodied carbon by approximately 50% compared to a new-build office. This approach saves around 7,600 tonnes of CO2e, while the project also targets exceptional sustainability credentials. By integrating intelligent façade design, advanced mechanical services, and efficient building management systems, we are actively minimizing operational energy use.
The west extension, a 7.5m extension over 12 floors, forms a key part of the modified building. To achieve this, an External V-Truss will be utilised - an innovative system which attaches to the 1980s structure to transfer the weight onto the building’s central columns, ensuring safety without disrupting the live railway lines of Liverpool Street station below.
Significant public realm improvements form a key part of the project. The existing space connecting Exchange Square with the Bishopsgate-facing part of the building, called Exchange Arcade, will be extended, featuring external terraces and additional space for around 800 bikes.
With a view over the newly landscaped park at Exchange Square, a striking feature reception, landscaped terraces on every floor, and an 8,000sq. ft amenity lounge, One Exchange Square sets a new precedent for modern office spaces.
This exciting new adaptive reuse scheme is the workplace of the future.
