A new ‘vertical village’

Quay Quarter Tower (QQT) is a 50-storey commercial building that will offer 90,000 square metres of premium-grade office space.

QQT plays a vital part in AMPC’s vision to transform its landmark sites at Circular Quay into a vibrant destination that supports Sydney’s future as a green, global and connected city.

The 200-meter-high tower, designed by Danish architects 3XN, comprises a series of shifting glass volumes stacked upon each other to provide a striking façade and an atrium that cuts all the way through the building.

The tower features the latest in commercial office technology and is targeting 6-star Green Star and 5.5 Star NABERS ratings.

In constructing the project, Multiplex has utilised its broad experience in delivering complex projects with challenging requirements – such as constructing over and around existing structures, the issues associated with constrained sites and working in highly visible environments.

In a world-first, Multiplex is demolishing and reconstructing the north side of the building, while at the same time retaining and refurbishing the south side, enabling significant environmental and operational efficiencies.

By retaining two thirds of the original building Multiplex has been able to save more than six million kilos of carbon, which is the equivalent of around 35,000 Sydney to Melbourne flights.

There have already been a number of construction firsts with the building, including the tallest cranes in Sydney today and the highest erected scaffolding in Australia.
