London, United Kingdom. Multiplex UK is pleased to announce that its revalidated Science Based Target has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking the next phase of its climate strategy and reinforcing commitments to reducing emissions across its operations and supply chain.

As the first contractor in the UK to achieve approval for a Science Based Target aligned with a 1.5°C pathway in 2019, this updated target formally validates the next phase of Multiplex’s decarbonisation journey.

Under the newly approved target, Multiplex UK commits to reducing absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2025 base year.

The move to an absolute Scope 3 reduction target reflects our intentions to focus on reducing emissions across our entire value chain rather than relying solely on supplier engagement. Achieving this will require collaboration across our sector, working closely with clients, partners and suppliers to drive meaningful emissions reductions. We are proud to have surpassed our original 2017 baseline Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction target, achieving a 95% reduction by the end of 2024, well ahead of our goal to reduce emissions by 55% by 2030.
Maria Fernandez Cachafeiro Head of Sustainability & Social Value

The updated 2025 baseline establishes a credible, science-based pathway for continued emissions reductions through to 2030 while reflecting the evolution of Multiplex's business and project portfolio.

The approval follows the target review required under the latest SBTi criteria.
