Multiplex becomes the first construction company in Canada to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative

This makes it the first construction company – and tenth company from any sector – in Canada to take this important step towards combatting harmful climate change.

The SBTi encourages companies world-wide to transition to a low-carbon economy by helping them set science-based greenhouse gas emissions targets.

Canada is the third Multiplex region to join the SBTi's 'Companies Taking Action' list. It joins Multiplex's European and Middle Eastern operations, both of which have already committed their targets and are taking science-based action.

Terry Olynyk, President and Managing Director of Multiplex in Canada, said, Signing the SBTi commitment is a proud moment for Multiplex.

"We are a responsible contractor and our people are passionate about having a positive impact on the environment through the way we undertake our projects. Committing to this initiative symbolizes that," he said.

To identify and achieve the target, Multiplex's energy use and greenhouse gas emissions will be scientifically measured across the Canadian operations to certify they are in line with the latest climate science.

The SBTi is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It forms one of the commitments of We Mean Business, a global non-profit coalition working with the world's most influential businesses to take action on climate change.
