The first and landmark building for the DIFC

The Gate is a 15-storey office building in the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) which houses the Dubai Stock Exchange. It provides 43,000m² of office accommodation and over three levels of parking for up to 1,500 cars in the basement.

The building forms a gateway to the Financial Centre, with twin towers rising 60 metres (up to Level 12) interconnected at a high level by a structural steel archway. At Level 12, eight 27 metre-long, 60 tonne structural steel trusses were required for the archway. This was fabricated in full length off site and then transported to site. The trusses were strand jacked from the podium at level one, up to level 12, and then slid into position before being welded to embedments cast within the frame. A combination of precast flooring and in-situ concrete with permanent decking was used in the roof area.

Cladding the building is a combination of glazed curtain walling, using high performance glass suitable for the Middle East climate, and unique Adriano Granite imported from Italy. The quality inherent in the exterior reflects the building’s function as the cornerstone of the Dubai Financial District.
