250 metre-high tower delivered in only 18 months
Multiplex wrapped up constuction of The Tower skyscraper in 2002. Located nearby the famous Emirates Towers, on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, it is instantly recognisable because of its remarkable pyramid peak and unique facade.
The 250m high residential tower comprises: a basement, a ground floor entry, 30 levels of three-bedroom apartments, 16 levels of one-bedroom apartments, three technical floor levels and six roof levels to give a total of 372 apartments and an additional 10-storey carpark.
The attached multi-storey carpark accommodates eight levels of parking and the upper level houses a health club. The basement features electro-mechanical services, below the ground floor, which are designed for two distinct entrances – administration offices and a coffee shop.
The crest of the building is crowned with a glazed pyramid and distinctive metal fins. The tower is clad in aluminium panels and high-performance glass.
Multiplex achieved a three-day cycle on the typical floor construction, which cleared the way for the curtain wall cladding, mechanical, engineering and plumbing works and the application of finishes to proceed. Precast and prefabricated horizontal and vertical members were fabricated off-site and integrated on-site to save time, resources and costs. This method also enabled better quality control, improved safety and a shorter program.
Multiplex delivered the skyscraper only 18 months after commencement, allowing handover of apartments to begin at an earlier date.
