Multiplex completes $200 million Paragon tower in Melbourne CBD

VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA: Premier construction company Multiplex has completed Beulah’s $200 million 48-level luxury residential apartment tower Paragon, located at 318 Queen Street in Melbourne’s CBD.

Designed by high-profile architects Fender Katsalidis, the high-rise tower stands some 167 metres above street level and comprises 227 apartments in a range of one, two and three-bedroom configurations.

Notable features of Paragon include premium communal facilities and amenities including a lounge and private theatre, as well as a library, bar and exclusive dining areas. Residents also have access to a luxurious 15 metre lap pool, spa and gymnasium and Australia’s first elevated indoor forest, and the car park boasts an automated car stacker.

“We are thrilled to deliver this luxury residential tower and add a striking new landmark to Melbourne’s skyline. It’s been wonderful to work on such a history rich site formerly used by the Melbourne Celtic Club and preserve a significant part of the city’s history,” said Graham Cottam, Regional Managing Director of Multiplex Victoria.

Beulah Executive Director Adelene Teh said the completion of Paragon was a momentous milestone to have reached, signalling the company’s first CBD tower.

“Paragon is home to a number of boundary pushing design elements, some of which are the first of their kind; being able to deliver on these is an exciting achievement as it lifts the bar of what is expected when it comes to residential living in Melbourne,” she said.

Luxury features of the apartments include floor-to-ceiling windows designed to capture natural light and deliver panoramic views of Melbourne. Designer finishes such as stylish timber floorboards and brushed metal surfaces are used throughout with some floorplans including an ensuite, study and private balcony.

Paragon has achieved a 5 Star Greenstar rating, with ESD features including a rainwater harvesting system, the largest vertical installation of photovoltaic solar panels in Australia, and shared e-bikes. Biophilic design connects Paragon residents with the natural environment through the three-level ‘urban forest’ comprising green walls, mature trees and water features designed by Paul Bangay, widely regarded as the foremost garden designer in Australia today.

Challenges faced throughout construction included the demolition of the old Celtic Club, requiring a complex retention system to preserve the Heritage Façade. A custom retention system was designed by engineers to ensure demolition took place safely whilst keeping the heritage façade intact. Surveyors carefully conducted daily monitoring of the Heritage Façade to ensure no changes or unexpected movement occurred with the existing structure while excavation took place.

Multiplex has completed a number of new residential projects in the Melbourne CBD in recent years including LK Property Group’s 50-storey Capitol Grand, Hengyi Pacific’s Swanston Central in Carlton, and Hengyi Pacific’s Light House. It also has other large scale Melbourne CBD residential projects set for completion soon including Fragrance Group’s Premier Tower.
