TORONTO, CANADA: Premier global construction company Multiplex becomes the first General Contractor to be recognized as a safe employer by Ontario’s Chief Prevention Officer (CPO).

Multiplex is one of the first employers from any industry, and the first in construction, to be recognized as a Safe Employer under the government’s Supporting Ontario’s Safe Employers (SOSE) program.

The program recognizes employers who have demonstrated high standards in preventing injuries and illness in the workplace.

“We are incredibly proud to be able to say that Multiplex is the first general contractor to be named a recognized safe employer by the CPO,” said Mark Nolan, Senior Manager for Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) at Multiplex.

“Multiplex’s focus has always been on prevention, and we are on a continuous journey to enhance safety culture and standards across our global business and the wider industry.”

“The SOSE is a significant evolution in occupational health and safety, and we hope that by being an early adopter we can inspire more employers to pursue the program,” Mr. Nolan said.

Being a recognized employer demonstrates that Multiplex has successfully implemented an accredited occupational health and safety management system audited by a third party, and is compliant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

More information about the SOSE program and recognized employers is available on the Government of Ontario website.
