An intricate and challenging build
At completion, 171 Collins Street was the first Premium Grade commercial building delivered to the Melbourne CBD in 20 years.
171 Collins St is a 6 Star Green Star commercial office building that merges Collins Street’s luxury and sophistication with the intimacy and vibrant atmosphere of Flinders Lane.
The 18 levels, including four levels of basement carpark, consists of 29,700m2 of premium office space over 17 large campus-style floor-plates, and 1,700m2 of boutique office space in the restored heritage building on Collins Street. The lower levels incorporate a business centre and over 1,500m2 of high-end retail space.
The 171 Collins Street tower facade has a weaved crystalline appearance that provides a graceful focal point to Melbourne's skyline. The facade has been designed to allow the spires of St Paul’s Cathedral to provide a consistent backdrop; they are clearly discernible and can be viewed from all parts of the facade.
The building incorporates key environmental features to achieve ratings using both the Green Star and National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) schemes. In particular, the use of an under-floor air distribution system provides superior indoor air quality, occupant comfort and flexibility and rainwater harvesting and grey water reuse minimises water wastage.
Attention to detail and composition make this an iconic building, which offers a refined architectural solution utilising cutting edge technology and Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) principles while being mindful of the heritage surrounding.
