We are proud to announce our enhanced UK parental leave policies, which came into effect across the business in 2019. Maternity leave has now been extended to 39 weeks fully-paid. We have also doubled our paid paternity leave period to four weeks, with additional options for those who wish to take shared parental leave.

These policies have been improved to help our team focus on their work/life balance - a key issue facing us all. By offering industry-leading flexibility, we are striving to help break down the many barriers that working parents face and make our business and industry more assessable.

We understand that the transition when returning to work can prove challenging, which is why we are also implementing a 13-week flexible working period that allows returning parents to readjust to the workplace. We have also provided flexibility in when paternity leave can be taken, providing new parents with more choice in how they spend their time away from work.

Working parents are an essential part of our business. We are proud to be leading our industry, working to break down barriers to entry in order to make construction more attractive to all.

These new parental leave policies are the first outcome of Multiplex Respect, our diversity and inclusion committee that we launched last year. Multiplex Respect was created to promote positive behavioural change and foster an inclusive workplace. Implementing these new parental leave policies is a key milestone that will be supported by a range of other initiatives that will come into effect throughout 2020 and beyond.
