Targetting LEED Silver

The New Student Residences is a seven-storey landmark of sustainable and student-centered design, targetting LEED Silver certification.

Set to transform the student experience at University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), the upcoming New Student Residences project introduces a dynamic, seven-storey facility offering 400 beds across 116,560 square feet of thoughtfully designed space. Strategically located beside the Oscar Peterson Hall and surrounded by existing student residence buildings, the development is envisioned as a vibrant hub that fosters connection, inclusion, and  well-being.

The residence will feature a range of amenities tailored to enrich student life, including a conference room, music room, games room, event hall, and a revitalized pedestrian plaza that seamlessly links new and existing pathways through the campus's lush natural landscape.

Designed through a collaborative partnership between Montgomery Sisam Architects and Danish firm Christensen & Co. Architects, the building draws inspiration from UTM's ravine setting. The podium's wood and stone cladding evokes a treetop living experience, while the upper levelsfeature copper-toned alumimum and vertical fins that animate the façade with shifting light throughout the day.

In alignment with the University’s sustainability goals, the project is pursuing LEED Silver certification. Its bioclimatic envelope ensures high energy efficiency, positioning the residence as a model for environmentally responsible development and a benchmark for future campus infrastructure.
